//LOOKING BACK I: The Adventures of Hot Rod
Status: Book one finished, sequels cancelled, may eventually revisit or rewrite, but not anytime soon.
The character "Hot Rod", although never intended for purposes relating to the game, he is essentially a Tails fancharacter. He is the same in appearance, but a bit taller and without any shoes. He was created when I was around eight years old and had, for years afterward, been the title character in almost all of my fantasy daydreams. In these fantasy daydreams, he gained the ability to breathe fire, as well as fire immunity (these two abilities later became the base for the Veron race, along with teleportation). He also gained power of bubbles, and psychic powers (akin to those of Mewtwo). Thankfully for the story itself, he had no such freakishly powerful abilities as he attained through the years of my daydreaming epic. Also, thankfully, he was never used in any RPs, since he was very much a godmode character at the later parts of his journeys.
The Adventures of Hot Rod was my very first story-writing project. Ever. As such, it helped establish the characteristics of my later stories and RPing. The town of Adther was used in the later stories, The Wolves and the later revamp, Adther Wolves. Adther is also a staple in my RPs, used as the name for the main town in almost every one. Sardor may also be reused as a villain, this time facing off against not just one fox, but three wolves and their friends. Further, the first use of the Easter Bunny was used in this story. Though Easter the Easter Bunny has never again appeared in either story or RP, there has been a similar character in RPs, a wizard with an attitude known as May Cottontail, daughter of Peter Cottontail. Also, though I myself am not sure of this, the persona of Joat may very well be a sort of modified reincarnation of the character Hot Rod.
The tale begins with a human boy mysteriously appearing in a forest. He eventually meets an old man and is asked for a name. Speaking off the top of his head, he identifies himself as Hot Rod, though he almost immediately regrets giving such a spur-of-the-moment name for himself. Later, while sleeping in the forest, poor and alone, he encounters a vampire. He actually manages to slay it and gains much fame for it, thus starting his journey for fighting against the vampires and their leader, Sardor.
The writing style itself is basic and child-like, as i was only 10 or so when I started it; I didn’t fully understand commas; many of the story elements are somewhat haphazard; I broke about twenty copyright laws (or would have, if I’d tried to sell it)… But somehow, despite all that, I think I did fairly well. Honestly, those qualities actually almost worked toward making it a great tale. Another thing that worked toward it was that it was so fun to write. I never got tired of writing it because I wrote what I had a whim for that day, which added a whimsical side to it. It also happens to be, as of this writing, the only book that I have ever actually completed, even if it is only a length of 54 pages, at a 16-point font. If one can endure the childishness of it, it may actually serve as a good (and very easy) read, as well as an insight into my early days. Thus, I may eventually repost it somewhere. In the meantime, here is the first subchapter of the story, with a typical length for a subchapter:
The arrival
What a strange thing to find out. All I did was go to sleep and guess what I wake up to. I wake up to realize that I’m in some crazy zone of fantasy. The only shred of reality was my hunger. I was a bit thirsty too. Neither of which I realized at the moment.
I don’t think I would’ve realized if a rock hit me in the head but I realized this... a sign reading “welcome to Adther.”
That’s a sign that might as well read “it’s hopeless.” You don’t know what you have until what you have is still real and you’re fake.
